Paige Shiver Says Ex-Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Impregnated Her During a Controlling Relationship

Her on-air account spotlights unresolved questions about Michigan's oversight.

Overview

  • Shiver, in a Good Morning America interview Friday, said she became pregnant in 2022 and ended the pregnancy on doctors’ advice because she has Pompe disease, a rare disorder that weakens muscles and can strain the heart and lungs.
  • She said the years-long relationship was an open secret in the football program and claimed leaders and staff knew but did not intervene while Moore held sway over her job and emotions.
  • Michigan fired Moore on Dec. 10 for an undisclosed relationship with a direct report, and hours later he went to Shiver’s apartment where police say he threatened self-harm with kitchen utensils before being arrested.
  • Felony counts filed after that incident were dropped in a March plea deal as Moore pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors; on April 14 a judge gave him 18 months of probation, fines, and a no-contact order, which she called too lenient.
  • Her contract with Michigan has since expired, and her attorneys now accuse the athletic department of systemic failures as the university says it acted promptly and continues an outside review.
