Pacific Surfliner Adds Daily LA–San Luis Obispo Roundtrip Starting May 4

Commuter‑timed schedules with subsidies aim to shift Highway 101 trips to rail.

Overview

  • The LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, VCTC and SBCAG set a May 4 launch for a new daily Los AngelesSan Luis Obispo roundtrip on Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner.
  • The morning run targets workers, leaving Moorpark at 6:31 a.m. for Goleta at 8:11 a.m. with stops in Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura and Santa Barbara.
  • Ventura and Santa Barbara transportation agencies will each contribute $1.1 million in the first year to support operations and reduced fares.
  • Subsidies cut commute costs to $50 for 10 rides or $150 for a monthly unlimited pass, compared with a $17 standard one‑way ticket between Ventura and Santa Barbara.
  • The relaunch answers a 2018–2020 version that suffered delays and an early arrival that missed typical office hours before the pandemic ended the service.
