Owner and Council Move to Remove Occupants From Cornwall 'Ghost Estate'

The push signals a turn toward securing a long-derelict site after years of inaction.

Overview

  • St Erth Parish Council said it is working with Cornwall Council and landowner Barton Bridging Ltd to ensure the couple leave the Chenhalls Road development.
  • The owner plans to board up every property, secure the perimeter, install CCTV and hire a security firm once the site is vacated.
  • Victoria Morrall, 39, and David Antram, 61, say they live off-grid in one house with two ponies and two Rottweilers and claim an informal okay to act as security, which officials dispute.
  • Devon and Cornwall Police, called on January 24 after reports of a firearm at the site, seized two air weapons and a machete and later released two arrested suspects without charge.
  • The ten-home project won planning permission on appeal in March 2015, was never occupied, and has been owned by Barton Bridging since 2019 after the original developer went into receivership.
