Osaka Confirms Measles Case With Hospital and Subway Exposure Alerts
Health authorities urge anyone who may have been exposed to watch for symptoms through Feb. 19.
Overview
- A man in his 20s with measles visited Nihon Seimei Hospital in Osaka’s Nishi Ward and was on the second floor on Feb. 2 from about 10:30 a.m. to noon.
- Osaka officials say the patient may have come into contact with an unspecified number of people during that hospital visit.
- The man rode Osaka Metro on Jan. 28–29, including the Chuo Line between Kujō and Awaza and the Sennichimae Line between Tanimachi Kyūchōme and Awaza.
- He developed fever and other symptoms on Jan. 29, was tested at the hospital on Feb. 2, and was confirmed positive on Feb. 4.
- Authorities report no travel history for the patient and are investigating the route of infection while asking people to call ahead before seeking care if symptoms appear.
