Ortigoza Imputed on Gender Violence Charges

The formal charges follow audiovisual evidence shown to prosecutors and allow them to seek detention at his August 5 indagatoria.

Overview

  • The UFI No. 3 prosecutor in Ezeiza, María Lorena González, formally imputed Néstor Ortigoza on Friday, June 12 for aggravated light injuries and damage in the context of gender violence.
  • The case file includes two videos published by his ex-partner Lucila Cassiau, photographs, a psychological expert report, and witness statements that prosecutors said gave them enough grounds to charge him.
  • Ortigoza was summoned to give his sworn indagatory statement on August 5 at 10:00 in the Ezeiza prosecutor’s office and the complainant’s lawyer has said he will ask the judge to order detention then.
  • A judicial restriction barring Ortigoza from approaching the complainant remains in force and his club has placed him on institutional suspension, affecting his public and sporting standing.
  • Under Argentine criminal procedure, formal imputation and the scheduled indagatory hearing start the instruction phase but do not equal conviction, and the prosecution must now build its case before any trial or sentence.
