Orbs Launches OIP-9 Vote to Create a Staked-Holder DAO

The proposal defines who can vote, how votes are cast and how approved actions are executed so the community can assume network control in stages.

Overview

  • Orbs published OIP-9 and opened a community vote to establish an Orbs DAO that would formalize on-chain community governance.
  • The proposal limits initial voting to ORBS tokens that are staked in the Orbs proof-of-stake contract and uses Snapshot for off-chain voting.
  • Approved proposals would be carried out through DAO-controlled multisig wallets, creating a clear path from votes to operational changes.
  • OIP-9 gives the DAO a narrow first remit—oversight of PoS infrastructure, Guardian certification and revocation, approval of major protocol upgrades, and approval of new network deployments—while keeping other powers with the core team for now.
  • The plan includes a temporary emergency mechanism that lets the core team act quickly when needed but requires later ratification by the DAO, and it sets the governance foundation for a future Season 1 tokenomics proposal and gradual transfer of treasury and revenue control.
