Orange Alert in Tucumán as Severe Storms Bring Hail and Downed Trees

Officials urge strict precautions during continued storm instability.

Overview

  • Argentina’s national weather service kept an orange-level alert in place for much of Tucumán, including the Capital, Yerba Buena, Trancas and low-lying zones flagged for flood risk.
  • The official forecast calls for 50–80 mm of rain with locally higher totals, occasional hail, intense electrical activity and wind gusts up to about 80 km/h.
  • A strong hailstorm hit El Cadillal, and residents shared images of hail damage from Valle Viejo and Sumalao.
  • Fallen trees were reported in northern areas of the Capital, with Civil Defense crews clearing Avenida Terebintos to restore circulation.
  • The municipality advised avoiding travel during severe conditions, protecting vulnerable people, unplugging appliances and reporting incidents to 147 as agencies coordinate response and monitoring.
