Overview

  • OpenAI’s Codex update Thursday adds Mac-only autonomous computer use, letting the agent see the screen, move the cursor, click, and type to complete tasks without taking focus from what you are doing.
  • Codex now includes an in-app browser based on OpenAI’s Atlas work that lets people prototype sites and leave pinpoint comments, with full Internet actions promised for a later release.
  • The ecosystem expands with roughly 100 plugins, including integrations for the Microsoft suite, Atlassian Rovo, CodeRabbit, Render, and Superpowers, while developers gain multiple terminal tabs, a file preview sidebar, GitHub PR review, a summary pane, and an alpha Remote devbox SSH feature.
  • Workflows get image generation via gpt-image-1.5, broader automations that can resume work and schedule follow-ups, and a preview of memory that learns preferences and offers proactive suggestions.
  • The rollout starts for desktop users signed into ChatGPT, with computer control limited to macOS at launch and EU, UK, Enterprise, and Education users set to receive computer use and personalization features later.
