Overview
- OpenAI announced Thursday that ChatGPT Health is now available to logged-in U.S. users 18 and older across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro on web and iOS, and the assistant can use connected data in any chat after a user grants permission.
- Users can link Apple Health, fitness apps and records from systems such as Epic, Oracle Health, One Medical, MyFitnessPal, and Function so ChatGPT can compare labs, summarize visits, track medications, and relate activity or sleep to symptoms.
- OpenAI says connected health data and conversations that use it will not be used to train its foundation models, will get extra encryption, and can be removed with synced data deleted within 30 days of disconnection.
- The feature runs on OpenAI’s newest models (GPT-5.5 Instant for free users and GPT-5.6 Sol for paid tiers) and the company cites improved HealthBench results, but independent clinicians and researchers are pressing for peer-reviewed validation of those claims.
- The release comes during active lawsuits that allege past ChatGPT versions gave dangerous medical advice and has prompted doctors to urge users to verify AI guidance, start fresh chats for new problems, and consult clinicians for worrying symptoms.
