Overview
- The Agentic AI Foundation was announced on December 10 under the Linux Foundation to define neutral standards for agent systems.
- OpenAI contributes the widely used Agents.md format, Anthropic brings the Model Context Protocol, and Block provides the Goose agent framework.
- OpenAI reports Agents.md has been used across more than 60,000 open-source projects, and Anthropic cites over 10,000 MCP servers since November 2024 with adoption in ChatGPT, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.
- Early members already include Google, Microsoft, AWS, Cloudflare and Bloomberg, and the foundation is inviting developers, researchers and companies to participate.
- Work is at an initial standards-setting stage, and a new commentary highlights security concerns around MCP while noting the move to neutral governance.
