Ontario International Airport Unveils 60-Foot ‘ONT’ Gateway Monument

The installation signals ONT’s locally directed resurgence during its Decade of Local Control.

Overview

  • The new monument stands at Archibald Avenue and Airport Drive, replacing an understated gateway sign installed in 1998.
  • Each letter rises about 12 feet, the structure spans roughly 60 feet, weighs more than eight tons, and features programmable LED lighting for events and holidays.
  • A layered mountain backdrop draws from the nearby San Gabriel range, using modular sections assembled on site for a pronounced sense of place.
  • Ontario-based Sign Industries designed and fabricated the piece, and OIAA leaders Alan D. Wapner and Curt Hagman took part in the unveiling.
  • Airport officials tie the landmark to a yearlong Decade of Local Control celebration, citing sustained growth since 2016, a June 2025 monthly record of over 659,000 travelers, and a 2025 J.D. Power ranking as the No. 2 medium-sized U.S. airport.
