Onset Father Gets One Year to Serve for Toddler’s Methadone Death After Guilty Plea

Prosecutors said he was the sole adult present, aware methadone was in the home.

Overview

  • Donald Humes, 34, pleaded guilty in Brockton Superior Court to manslaughter and two counts of reckless endangerment in the 2022 death of his son, Cameron.
  • Judge Daniel O’Shea sentenced Humes to two and a half years at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility with one year to serve and the remainder suspended for two years.
  • Humes will be on probation for two years after release with drug and alcohol screenings required, according to the Plymouth District Attorney’s office.
  • Prosecutors said they sought a six- to eight-year state prison term, a recommendation the court did not follow.
  • The medical examiner ruled the death an acute methadone intoxication, and investigators concluded Humes failed to recognize his son’s medical distress after calling 911 on April 24, 2022.
