ONPE to Hold Public Draw on July 24 to Name 817,000 Polling-Station Officials

The draws will convert a 2.2 million preselected pool into definitive teams to staff Peru’s October 4 regional and municipal elections.

Overview

  • ONPE completed an automated public preselection that chose 25 candidates for each of 89,935 polling tables, creating a pool of more than 2.2 million potential members.
  • Each table will receive nine definitive members—three titulares and six suplentes—selected by public sorteo to be held on Friday, July 24 in 125 ODPE offices nationwide.
  • The results will be posted physically at ODPE offices and published online the same day, with veedores from JNE, RENIEC and the Defensoría del Pueblo overseeing the process.
  • Selection rules and algorithmic filters prioritized citizens under 65 with higher education who did not serve in the recent national vote and excluded candidates, party leaders, elected authorities, electoral staff and active members of the Armed Forces, Police and Ministerio Público.
  • After the July 24 draws ONPE will open the period for filing challenges, publish final lists and begin training and logistics for the October 4 voting day, a sequence that determines who is legally required to serve and how local polling operations will run.
