ONPE Schedules Public Draw to Name More Than 817,000 Poll Workers for October Elections

The draw will populate polling stations so Peru can run its October 4 regional and municipal vote with staff in place.

ONPE completed a preselection on July 17 that produced lists of 25 substitute candidates per polling table using voter identity data from Reniec.
The electoral authority will hold a public draw on Friday, July 24 to designate more than 817,000 citizens as miembros de mesa for the October 4, 2026 regional and municipal elections.
Selection rules give preference to people with higher education and avoid reappointing those who served as poll workers in the recent 2026 general elections to spread responsibility more widely.
ONPE lowered the probability of selecting citizens over 65 and people with disabilities, citing the long and physically demanding nature of an election day.
After the draw, ONPE will run two in-person trainings for designated poll workers on Sunday, September 20 and Sunday, September 27 as it prepares to staff voting at scale for races that will elect 13,148 subnational authorities with 83 political organizations participating.
