Overview
- Security cameras at the Pueblos del Plata complex in Hudson, Berazategui, recorded a puma, triggering provincial emergency protocols and neighborhood alerts.
- Fauna authorities, police and Civil Defense are conducting continuous surveillance with drones, thermal imaging, camera traps and ground tracking teams along the Hudson waterfront and near Parque Pereyra Iraola.
- Specialists, including rescuer Fernando Pieroni, identified the animal as a juvenile male Puma concolor after finding tracks and feces, and they report it typically avoids people unless threatened.
- Residents are urged to keep pets indoors, leave exterior lights on at night, avoid approaching or trying to capture the animal and report sightings to 911 or Defensa Civil at 103.
- The puma remains at large as of March 4, and officials say tranquilization and relocation will be used only if necessary to protect both public safety and the animal’s welfare.
