ONGC Seals Petronet Regas Deal and Reliance Deepwater Pact to Strengthen India’s Gas Chain

The agreements target faster offshore execution with greater supply flexibility as Dahej nears an expansion in regasification capacity.

Overview

  • Petronet LNG and ONGC signed a five-year Master Regasification Agreement on January 27 to handle ONGC’s LNG at the Dahej terminal, adding flexibility for spot cargo regasification and domestic marketing.
  • ONGC and Reliance agreed to share deepwater resources across the East Coast, including rigs, offshore vessels, processing facilities, and pipelines, to cut costs, reduce duplication, and speed project timelines.
  • ONGC Director (Production) Pankaj Kumar said the companies will petition the government to allow approved vessels to operate across Indian sedimentary basins without repeating approvals.
  • Petronet said Dahej’s capacity is being augmented from 17.5 to 22.5 million tonnes per annum, with commissioning expected shortly, improving headroom for regasification services.
  • ONGC is advancing LNG logistics through joint ventures with MOL and NYK to build two roughly 50,000-cubic-metre carriers, a move it links to anticipated shifts in global LNG supply composition from 2028.
