One UI 9 Streamlines iPhone-toGalaxy Moves With QR Pairing and Broader Data Transfers

QR setup, password and eSIM migration, and AirDrop-compatible Quick Share make it easier for iPhone users to reproduce their setup on Samsung phones.

Overview

  • Samsung announced the One UI 9 Smart Switch updates this week, introducing a QR‑based flow that starts a secure wireless transfer from an iPhone without installing an app on the iPhone.
  • The updated Smart Switch can copy saved passwords and passkeys, call history, accessibility settings, and active eSIM profiles in addition to photos, contacts, messages, calendars, and apps.
  • One UI 9 is already live on the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 with Galaxy S26 and some A‑series models enrolled in beta tests as Samsung stages the rollout.
  • Quick Share on One UI 9 and certain One UI 8.5 devices can interoperate with Apple’s AirDrop so files can be sent between iPhones and Galaxy phones during and after migration.
  • The change lowers a practical barrier to switching by preserving system-level items and home screen familiarity, but it also requires up‑to‑date software on both phones and trusted verification during transfers.
