Overview
- The City of Philadelphia announced Thursday that One Philly: Unity Concert for America will run on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on July 4 with gates at 3 p.m., a main program about 5–11:45 p.m., and fireworks at 11:45 p.m.
- Headliners confirmed include Christina Aguilera, Will Smith (with DJ Jazzy Jeff), Jill Scott and The Roots, plus guests such as Seal, Kathy Sledge, State Property, Infinity Song, Gillie Da King and Wallo 267.
- ESM Productions is producing the free event with executive producers Scott Mirkin, Shawn Gee and Questlove, and Wanda Sykes is set to host the six‑hour program.
- Organizers describe the show as a nonpartisan celebration of unity and democracy and expect it to be one of the largest free concerts in the nation, but broadcast partners and detailed transport and security plans have not yet been announced.
- The Roots’ involvement restores a Parkway July 4 tradition the band led in the Michael Nutter era and marks a cultural homecoming that city officials say aims to put Philadelphia at the center of the nation’s 250th anniversary festivities.
