Overview
- Pearland officers found a vehicle on fire with four people inside after responding to a rollover on the SH 288 toll ramp at about 1:08 a.m. on Thursday.
- Officers fought the blaze and Pearland Fire Department crews extricated three occupants who were taken to area hospitals while one occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Pearland Police have assigned their Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Drone Team, and Crash Reconstruction Team to determine the cause and sequence of the crash.
- Damage to a guardrail and the severity of the wreck forced diversion of all southbound SH 288 toll traffic and temporary closure of the Hughes Ranch and Discovery Bay entrance ramps.
- TxDOT has been notified and will inspect and repair the roadway and guardrail before authorities reopen the toll ramp, which could delay commutes for local drivers.
