Overview
- Work has started on the Theresienwiese and the site is now an official construction area that organizers describe as the largest temporary building site in Europe.
- A legal bid by host Alexander Egger to halt erection of the Schottenhamel and Paulaner tents was rejected, allowing remaining tent contracts to be finalised and keeping the traditional Schottenhamel opening in place.
- Organisers say the build is a tight, 12‑week operation to erect 14 large and 21 small main tents plus three Oidn Wiesn tents while crews dig in connections for water, electricity and gas and pour temporary kitchen bases.
- The city warns that pedestrian and bicycle crossings of the Theresienwiese will be limited during the works and that entry to construction zones is forbidden for safety reasons, requiring detours for residents and park users.
- Major rides are scheduled for installation from late August with other attractions following in early September and organisers plan to open the festival on 19 September when Mayor Dominik Krause will tap the first keg and run the event through 4 October.
