- William D. DeFoor, 26, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two federal counts for engaging in physical violence against protected property and willful injury to U.S. government property.
- Prosecutors say Secret Service agents saw DeFoor breach the fence at Vance’s East Walnut Hills home on Jan. 5, try to break the window of an unmarked federal vehicle and then smash 14 panes in three large historic windows.
- The damage to federally owned security hardware was estimated at about $28,000 and DeFoor has been ordered to pay roughly that amount in restitution.
- Under the plea, DeFoor faces up to 10 years in prison on each count, has waived a jury trial and appeal rights, will be barred from coming within 350 yards of Vance or his family, and must not contact them.
- DeFoor remains detained pending sentencing, which will occur after a pre-sentence report expected to take several months, and his defense and family point to long-documented mental-health issues and prior incompetency findings that may be considered at sentencing.
