- A Celebration of Life was held Oct. 22 at Youngstown State University's Beeghly Center, open to the public and streamed online, with Gov. Mike DeWine and Attorney General Dave Yost in attendance.
- Cayton, 40, was assisting a disabled semi on State Route 11 in Canfield on Oct. 16 when a 2007 Mack Granite driven by 35-year-old Ryan Rach struck his cruiser from behind, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

- OSHP Colonel Charles Jones highlighted Cayton’s career: hired in 2012, service at the Lisbon and Canfield posts, Post Trooper of the Year in 2022, and Master Trooper in 2024.
- The family asked for donations to the Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton Memory Fund via the Ohio Troopers website in lieu of flowers, noting he is survived by his wife, Lynsey, and children, Turner and Romy.
