OGDCL Reports New Gas Finds in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Early flow tests point to extra local gas supply that could ease Pakistan’s import burden.

Overview

  • OGDCL said the Sahito-1 exploratory well in Khairpur flowed 17.2 million cubic feet of gas per day in a drill stem test, a short flow check used to gauge a reservoir.
  • The well recorded 3,390 psi at the wellhead on a 32/64 inch choke, and OGDCL operates it with a 95% stake to GHPL’s 5%.
  • Dunya News carried OGDCL’s claim of a second find at Beli Tang-1 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa flowing 26.5 million cubic feet per day at 4,214 psi in a PPL, GHPL, and MOL venture.
  • OGDCL also began oil output of about 460 barrels per day from the Pasakhi-13 horizontal well in Hyderabad using geo-steering to keep the drill within the most productive rock.
  • The company said it filed notices to stock exchanges and that these early flows could reduce gas imports, though further appraisal and development will determine what reaches the grid.
