Overview
- Portland Fire & Rescue and the Portland Police Bureau say the cause remains undetermined and the investigation is active.
- Authorities now report the fire did not originate in Councilor Candace Avalos’ vehicle or other property belonging to her.
- Crews responded around 2:40 a.m. Sunday to the 12400 block of Southeast Caruthers Street in the Mill Park neighborhood and extinguished the flames.
- Avalos and her cat escaped safely, no injuries were reported, and investigators have found no accelerant or incendiary device targeting her.
