O'Callaghan, Short and Shayna Jack Headline Australian Team After Sydney Trials

Selectors will now finalise relay line-ups and remaining discretionary spots before naming squads for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Pan Pacific Championships.

Overview

  • The six-day trials in Sydney produced the bulk of Australia’s selections for Glasgow and Irvine, with Mollie O’Callaghan winning the women’s 100m in 52.33 and Meg Harris finishing second to secure individual 100m berths.
  • Sam Short completed a rare domestic sweep of the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events and won the 1500m in 14:42.09, while Matt Galea and Ben Goedemans also dipped under the 1500m qualifying cut.

  • Australia’s depth at women’s sprint freestyle was underscored by five swimmers going under the qualifying time and by a likely relay core of O’Callaghan, Harris, Jack and Alex Perkins, leaving selectors to choose the final 4x100m quartet.
