NYPD Seeks Suspect in Rape of 13-Year-Old Near Van Cortlandt Park

Detectives have opened a special-victims probe and are urging the public to provide confidential tips to help identify and locate the man.

Overview

  • Investigators say the attack began on a northbound Bx9 bus and continued near Broadway and West 261st Street when the suspect dragged the girl into a wooded area of Van Cortlandt Park on Tuesday, June 23.
  • Emergency services took the 13-year-old to a nearby hospital and she remains in stable condition while detectives handle the case.
  • The NYPD released images of the wanted man and says he remains at large as officers ask anyone who recognizes him to call the Sex Crimes Hotline at 1-212-267-7273 or 646-610-7272.
  • Police also asked for tips to be sent to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or submitted online and via X @NYPDTips and said all calls and messages will be kept confidential.
  • Special Victims detectives are reviewing surveillance, canvassing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence, and follow-up reporting may include additional image releases, arrest updates, or changes to the victim’s condition.
