NYPD Says No More Outdoor Watch Parties at Madison Square Garden After Chaotic Celebrations

City officials are steering fans toward city‑sanctioned venues to reduce public‑safety risks from uncontrolled crowds.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, was watching the Knicks face the Cavaliers during their first Eastern Conference Finals match in a pen set up at 7th Avenue and West 33rd Street around 9:20 p.m. May 19 when tensions flared with five other spectators, law enforcement sources said.

The six — among thousands of Knicks diehards who partied like it was 1999 outside The Mecca — were issued summonses for disorderly conduct and processed at the NYPD’s Midtown South Precinct, authorities said.
