Overview
- City leaders announced Tuesday that five schools will open in September for the 2026–27 year to add seats in neighborhoods with long-standing crowding.
- The new campuses are the Academy of Cultural Excellence, Bronx School of Arts & Exploration, the Bronx School of Hip-Hop, Queens Academy for Innovative Learning, and West Q Elementary, with seats spanning pre-K through 12.
- Two of the schools are District 75 programs that will serve students with significant disabilities in K–8 in the Bronx and grades 6–12 in Queens to cut long commutes and expand local access.
- The Bronx School of Hip-Hop will be a Claremont high school for grades 9–12 that uses hip-hop culture for instruction, including emceeing, DJing, graffiti, breaking, audio production, digital media, and financial literacy.
- Across the slate, programs emphasize project-based learning, arts integration, technology and work-based learning to prepare students for college, careers and independent living.
