- The New York Road Runners announced on Tuesday that the Mott Haven section of the course will be rerouted between miles 20 and 21 to cut the number of turns from seven to five.
- Under the new Bronx alignment runners will follow this sequence after the Willis Avenue Bridge: left on East 135th Street, right on Alexander Avenue, left on East 141st Street, left on Third Avenue, then right on East 138th Street toward the Madison Avenue Bridge.
- The change restores pedestrian access to nearby businesses that had been blocked by the old course, including a Western Beef supermarket and the Clean Rite Center laundromat on East 140th Street.
- Race planners say the simpler line should ease runner flow and make safety and logistics work for police, medical teams, and volunteers, and it may shift where spectators gather along that mile.
- The tweak keeps the five-borough finish intact for the Nov. 1 race, which marks the 50th anniversary of the five-borough course that began in 1976 and follows years of growth that produced 59,226 finishers in 2025.
