NWS Posts Statewide Preliminary Maine Snow Totals, Up to 8.1 Inches

Evening releases by both forecast offices filled earlier reporting gaps.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service in Caribou reported preliminary totals at 7:57 p.m. Tuesday, followed by the Gray office at 9:20 p.m.
  • Madrid led the state with 8.1 inches, with Temple at 6.5 inches, Kingfield at 6.2 inches, and Fryeburg at 6 inches.
  • Central and southern tallies included New Gloucester at 5.7 inches, Litchfield at 5.5 inches, Lewiston at 5.5 inches, and Augusta at 4.5 inches.
  • Greater Portland readings reached 3 inches in South Portland and 2.1 inches at the Portland International Jetport.
  • Officials said the storm wrapped up overnight after dozens of crashes, with minimal power outages and only scattered delays on Wednesday; figures for Lincoln and Waldo counties were not yet available at 8:30 a.m.
