NWS Confirms EF1 Tornado Through Grayson, Hardin and Meade Counties

Officials continue damage surveys across five counties to separate tornado impacts from straight-line winds.

Overview

  • A National Weather Service survey determined the late Sunday to early Monday storm included at least an EF1 tornado with roughly 100 mph winds along the Grayson–Hardin–Meade track.
  • Survey teams also documented extensive straight-line wind damage in nearby areas, with Mount Washington in Bullitt County seeing gusts near 55 mph that nearly destroyed a three-car garage and workshop.
  • Nelson County reported about 7,000 Salt River Electric customers lost power, with at least 90% restored by Monday as crews replaced broken poles and cleared dozens of downed-wire spans.
  • County emergency managers in the affected areas said there have been no reported injuries.
  • In southern Indiana, a semi overturned on the Lee Hamilton Expressway in Clark County and Scottsburg’s water treatment plant sustained major roof damage, though water service continued.
