Nvidia Deepens South Korea Ties to Secure DRAM for Vera CPU Push

Talks aim to lock long-term memory supply to help Nvidia scale its new Vera data-center CPUs and systems as shortages limit production.

Overview

  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met SK Group and SK Hynix leaders in Seoul on June 7–8 and is scheduled to brief the media with SK Hynix chair Chey Tae-won about their discussions.
  • The companies are preparing cooperation plans that are expected to cover AI supercomputers, Nvidia’s new Vera data-center CPUs, PCs and robotics, according to reporting and executive statements.
  • Nvidia says it expects increased DRAM purchases from SK Hynix through the second half of 2026 and into 2027 as it tries to secure the memory needed for larger system deployments.
  • Huang warned that shortages run through wafers, packaging and silicon photonics, which keeps memory supply a bottleneck for rolling out new AI servers and appliances.
  • Formal deal terms and timelines remain pending and will be shaped by ongoing export-control limits on China and by further talks with Samsung, LG, Hyundai and telecom operators about manufacturing and network integration.
