Nutritionist Fights Off Intruder in Barueri as Suspect Is Detained

Police have seized the suspect’s phone to let investigators probe whether the attack was planned, whether others aided him, or whether there are additional victims.

Overview

  • The attack occurred on May 23 when a man entered a Barueri condominium, reached the victim’s 18th‑floor apartment and began an attempted sexual assault that the victim fought off for about 13 minutes.
  • Neighbors detained the attacker after the victim escaped and sought help, and a judge converted his in‑flagrante arrest to preventive detention to protect the survivor.
  • Polícia Civil has seized the suspect Wellington de Oliveira Santos’s cellphone and is examining messages and contacts to determine premeditation, possible accomplices and whether other women were targeted.
  • Public records show Wellington was convicted in 2017 for rape and related crimes, moved to a semi‑open regime in 2020 and received conditional release in 2021, and has a 2025 record for domestic violence.
  • The survivor has returned temporarily to Fortaleza for recovery, continues therapy and medication, urges women to learn self‑defense, and her lawyers are pressing the condominium for security failures shown in building footage.
