Nurse Arrested at Sanatorio Julio Méndez Accused of Sexually Abusing Sedated Elderly Patient

With court-ordered forensic testing aimed at finding DNA evidence, ObSBA has asked to join the case as a private plaintiff.

Overview

  • Hospital staff watching fifth-floor CCTV observed the alleged assault on a sedated, elderly inpatient and alerted security and Policía de la Ciudad, which led to the immediate detention of the nurse.
  • The victim, reported as an 82–86-year-old woman admitted for respiratory problems about 72 hours earlier, remains hospitalized and under medical and psychological care.
  • Judicial authorities from the Fiscalía and Juzgado Criminal y Correccional N°11 ordered seizure of the patient's sheets and clothing for forensic tests to look for possible DNA traces.
  • The accused is a 50-year-old male nurse who began working at the sanatorium in January, had no prior criminal record, and had been reassigned to the critical-care fifth floor roughly two weeks before the incident.
  • ObSBA, which runs Sanatorio Julio Méndez, activated abuse-response protocols, is offering victim support, and has formally sought status as a private plaintiff as the criminal investigation continues.
