Overview
- Punhana crime branch officers stopped a motorcycle on the Indana–Bichor road around 2:00–2:30 am after a tip-off, officials said.
- Police said Mohammad Abid opened fire, hitting ASI Suraj’s bulletproof jacket, before being shot in the right leg, while Jahid Hussain surrendered.
- A country-made pistol, live and empty cartridges, and the motorcycle were seized from the scene.
- An FIR for attempted murder, obstructing a public servant, and illegal firearms offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act was registered at Bichor police station.
- According to police, Abid is wanted in about a dozen cases including murder, cow smuggling and a POCSO matter, and he will be formally arrested after doctors at Nalhar hospital clear him.
