NSW Electoral Commission Reopens 2014 Labor Fundraiser Probe Involving Premier Minns

The case now sits with the electoral watchdog under rules that limit ICAC's reach.

Overview

  • Premier Chris Minns declined to say on Thursday whether he or his staff have been interviewed, citing a policy not to comment on any ongoing investigation.
  • Multiple sources told the Herald the commission has been conducting interviews about donations linked to a Labor fundraiser at Sunny Harbour Seafood Restaurant in Hurstville in September 2014.
  • A former ALP organiser, David Latham, filed a nine-page affidavit alleging Minns asked how to bank undeclared cash from that event, which Minns denies and calls false.
  • The NSW upper house committee examining the matter has sent Latham's affidavit to both the Electoral Commission and ICAC and plans to press the commission for public answers at a hearing.
  • ICAC previously reviewed related material in February 2026 but said it would not investigate without a referral from the Electoral Commission, as declarations logged less than $6000 from 10 donors despite a report at the time that about 200 people attended.
