NSS Blocks Security Check at Mannam Samadhi Forcing Changes to Vice-President’s Kerala Itinerary

Police say a blocked security sweep at the sacred memorial prompted a revised landing plan.

Overview

  • A joint security team of the CRPF and Kerala Police, including a dog squad, withdrew after the Nair Service Society refused inspection at Mannam Samadhi on grounds of sanctity.
  • With the mandatory check halted, police notified the protocol officer and said instructions from the Vice-President’s office were awaited.
  • The Statesman reports the helicopter will now land at Perunna around 2:45 pm before the SB College event after permission to visit the memorial was denied.
  • NSS sources told reporters they were not informed in advance of any tribute at the samadhi, saying only helicopter landing clearance had been sought.
  • The dispute revives long-running sensitivities at the site, including a 1996 controversy over security entering in shoes and a recent, disputed claim by Governor C. V. Ananda Bose.
