Overview
- Last December the NSPCC Helpline received 5,384 contacts from adults, about three quarters relating to abuse or neglect.
- Across December 24 to January 4, practitioners handled almost 2,000 contacts, with 17% leading to referrals to local authorities or emergency services.
- Regional pressure was evident, with 251 referrals in the South West and nearly 340 in the South East, most linked to abuse.
- Childline provided more than 2,700 winter counselling sessions about abuse, with support available around the clock over Christmas.
- The new campaign, inspired by a survivor’s story, highlights holiday risk drivers such as financial strain, alcohol use and prolonged time at home.
