Overview
- The scheme says it completed all 2026 decisions by December 31, approving 609,653 of 893,847 applications and rejecting about 49,568, with additional cases still in progress.
- An upfront disbursement on 1 February will cover the full book allowance plus one month of meal, accommodation, travel and personal care allowances.
- Housing allowances for students in private accommodation will be paid directly to accredited providers via an upgraded centralised portal that lets students apply and track placements.
- NSFAS will station servicing administrators at all 26 universities and 50 TVET colleges from 13 January to 31 March to support registrations and accommodation placement.
- Appeals are open with a 14 January deadline and outcomes due by 16 February, and applicants must submit supporting documents within 30 days of receiving their results.
