NRW Adds Best‑Price Guarantee and €63 Monthly Cap to Eezy App for Local Transit

The state will cover operators’ shortfalls to accelerate adoption of the app-based, distance-priced fare system.

Overview

  • From early January, Eezy fares are capped at the cheapest comparable single ticket in NRW, formalizing a best‑price guarantee announced by Transport Minister Oliver Krischer.
  • Frequent users pay no more than the Deutschlandticket price per month, currently €63, with the cap applied automatically across second‑class local trips.
  • NRW estimates about €1 million in additional annual costs for the guarantee and plans roughly €3.7 million in funding for 2026, after investing about €13.7 million since 2020.
  • Usage has surged, with 3.3 million rides in the first half of 2025 and more than one million passengers in December, as the check‑in/check‑out app calculates fares by airline‑kilometres.
  • Gaps remain as under‑18s are slated to gain statewide access around June 1 and border routes can trigger logouts, while group or day tickets may still undercut Eezy and the app requires continuous location access and phone battery.
