Overview
- A seasonal mountaineering ranger, Robin Pendery, fell into a crevasse near 14,000 Foot Camp and did not survive despite immediate rescue efforts, the National Park Service said.
- The park said Pendery had worked on Denali since 2024 performing climber safety, emergency response and alpine operations and had previously served as a guide and nurse.
- The June 4 death is the fourth on Denali this climbing season, following three deaths reported near Denali Pass the prior week.
- The National Park Service has launched an active investigation and has released few details so far while Denali officials issued statements mourning the loss.
- Denali’s high altitude, deep crevasses, heavy snow and extreme weather have made the mountain deadly for more than a century, with over 130 fatalities since 1903, and the cluster of early-season deaths highlights risks faced by both climbers and rescue personnel.
