NPCI Raises UPI Merchant Payment Limit to Rs 10 Lakh a Day Starting Today

The move widens high-value digital purchases for verified categories under tighter authentication as person-to-person transfers keep existing caps.

Overview

  • Capital markets and insurance payments now allow Rs 5 lakh per transaction with a daily ceiling of Rs 10 lakh.
  • Travel bookings, loan repayments and EMI collections permit Rs 5 lakh per transaction, with loans and EMIs allowed up to Rs 10 lakh in a day.
  • Credit card bill payments are enabled up to Rs 5 lakh per transaction with a 24-hour cap of Rs 6 lakh.
  • Jewellery purchases are raised to Rs 2 lakh per transaction and Rs 6 lakh per day, while GeM transactions and digital term deposits are allowed up to Rs 5 lakh per transaction.
  • The higher limits apply only to verified merchants with stronger security checks, changes are applied automatically for eligible users, and the P2P cap remains Rs 1 lakh per day as industry players welcome the update.
