Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy Pill Shows Strong Results, Reinforcing Stock Rebound

New trial data suggests the weight-loss pill could sustain recent business gains.

Overview

  • Fresh OASIS 4 results for the 25 mg oral Wegovy reported about one-third of participants hit 13.2% weight loss by four months and averaged 21.6% by 64 weeks, while others still lost 11.5%.
  • The study also showed big gains in mobility for people who started with poor physical function, and most side effects were mild stomach issues consistent with GLP-1 drugs.
  • Analyses presented with the update placed the pill ahead of orforglipron on weight loss and on fewer treatment dropouts, and the 25 mg dose is already cleared by the FDA with other markets pending.
  • Investors have bid the shares higher after a quarterly update that was better than feared even as adjusted sales fell 10% year over year and adjusted earnings per share slipped 3%.
  • More than two million people have started the pill since launch, a higher-dose Wegovy injection has gained approval, and late-stage drugs including CagriSema, Amycretin, and UBT251 are in the pipeline.
