November Beef Prices Jump in Argentina as Consumption Tops 2024 Pace

Weaker foreign sales have redirected more beef to the domestic market.

Overview

  • Sector data show a 6.6% monthly rise in November beef prices and a 53.2% increase year over year, led by a 13% jump in asado.
  • Apparent consumption averaged 48.3 kg per person in January–November, up 3.4% from a year earlier, with total intake near 2.101 million tons.
  • Whole-chicken prices fell 1% in November and 6.8% over four months, helping households sustain protein purchases despite pricier beef.
  • Production reached 2.881 million tons r/c/h in January–November, roughly flat versus 2024, as heavier carcasses (232 kg, +1.4%) offset a 1.9% drop in slaughter; November output fell 6.3% from October and 6.7% year over year.
  • Beef exports totaled 779,600 tons through November, down about 10% on softer Chinese demand and a 71.6% seasonal drop to Israel; USDA projects Argentina near 810,000 tons in 2026 as global trade steadies.
