Overview
- Nova Scotia Public Works issued a request for information to find operators for an inter-municipal bus network within roughly 100 kilometres of Halifax, with responses due May 20.
- The province outlined three priority corridors connecting Halifax to Truro, to Wolfville and Kentville via Windsor and Glooscap First Nation, and to Bridgewater, Lunenburg and Mahone Bay via Hubbards and Chester.
- The plan calls for dependable commuter service from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, using 11 to 15 wheelchair-accessible buses.
- The network would link to existing municipal routes, keep fares reasonable, add park-and-ride lots at key spots such as near the airport, and use coaches equipped for longer trips.
- Officials say the service is a key step from the Link Nova Scotia Regional Transportation Plan to improve access to jobs, schools and health care and to build ridership that could support future light rail.
