Overview
- The Nova Scotia Environment Department granted environmental assessment approval on Thursday, July 2, for the Ocean Lake Wind Project in Guysborough County.
- The project calls for 158 turbines about 221 metres tall to produce roughly 1,200 megawatts of electricity and cut about 1.94 million tonnes of CO2e a year.
- Approval attaches 61 terms and conditions aimed at protecting the environment and human health and sets a public construction schedule from 2029 with completion about five years later.
- Developers EverWind NS Holdings Ltd. and Membertou Development Corp. say the build will create more than 400 construction jobs and roughly $11 million in annual municipal tax revenue.
- Ocean Lake is intended to power a later phase of Everwind Fuels’ proposed hydrogen and ammonia hub at Point Tupper, but the company has not yet secured long‑term buyers or confirmed full financing for the wider project.
