Noto Satoyama Airport Adopts Pokemon With You Name to Aid Quake Recovery

Ishikawa officials say the branded makeover is meant to draw visitors and help rebuild the Noto Peninsula's tourism economy.

Overview

  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony at Noto Satoyama Airport formally launched the nickname “Noto Satoyama Pokemon With You Airport” and included a Pikachu appearance for visitors.
  • The airport terminal was redecorated with large Pokemon illustrations and a suspended Pikachu balloon, and shops are selling limited-edition Pokemon merchandise and themed meals.
  • The Pokemon With You Foundation, set up by employees of The Pokemon Company to run social contribution projects, proposed the nickname and backed the airport makeover.
  • Ishikawa Governor Yukiyoshi Yamano said the rebrand is intended to become a source of strength for reconstruction and to attract visitors from around the world.
  • Officials framed the move as part of wider recovery work after the January 2024 quake, noting complementary local efforts such as Pokemon-themed manhole covers and decorated footbaths and that the airport will keep the nickname through September 2029.
