Overview
- The VANDA Berlin Tennis Open closed its grounds and evacuated spectators after a severe thunderstorm caused flooding and electrical and power-supply damage on Sunday, with organisers saying there would be no play before 4:00 PM.
- Play resumed hours later and Linda Nosková defeated Jessica Pegula 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to claim the WTA 500 title, 500 ranking points, about €161,310 and a first entry into the WTA top 10.
- The storm also suspended doubles play, leaving a doubles final partially completed and requiring technical checks of courts, drainage and stadium systems before normal operations can restart.
- Pegula reached the final after a rain-interrupted semi against Aryna Sabalenka, and both finalists are expected to move on to other grass warm-up events such as Bad Homburg as they prepare for Wimbledon next week.
- Organisers apologised for any roughness in the evacuation, said safety remained the priority and warned that ongoing damage assessments could affect ticketing, remaining matches and site access for fans.
