Northern Railway Boosts KatraSrinagar Specials After Snowfall Disruptions, Serving 3,000 in Two Days

Extra AC coaches increased capacity during the highway shutdown.

  • Jammu Division operated special reserved services on January 27–28 between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar after NH‑44 was blocked by heavy snowfall.
  • On January 27, train 04627 left Katra at 8:10 am with over 650 passengers, and return train 04628 departed Srinagar at 2:00 pm with more than 700 on board.
  • On January 28, the special left Katra at 10:30 am and Srinagar at 3:00 pm, carrying over 800 and over 850 passengers, respectively.
  • Officials reported full occupancy, added two AC coaches that provided 144 extra berths, and noted higher revenue from the expanded consist.
  • Passengers praised the rail option for safe travel during disrupted road and air links, and rail leaders said the service supports tourism in the snowy season as connectivity was later restored on Wednesday.
