Northern Publishes Festive Travel Calendar as Transpennine Works Set to Disrupt Routes

Planned upgrades will alter services and require replacement buses on key corridors through early January.

Overview

  • The calendar covers December 22 to January 4, with an earlier finish on Christmas Eve and no services on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
  • Passengers on the LeedsYork corridor face disruption from December 27 until late January due to Transpennine Route Upgrade works.
  • From December 27 to late morning December 29, rail replacement buses run between Leeds, York and Selby, there are no York–Sheffield services, and TransPennine Express trains between Manchester and York turn at Wakefield Kirkgate.
  • From December 29 to January 3, buses replace trains on MicklefieldYork, Selby–York via Church Fenton, and YorkMoorthorpe, with frequent YorkLeeds bus links.
  • Northern will operate two limited‑stop trains each way to Whitby on January 1, and after crew shortages caused December 20 cancellations, customers are urged to check journeys and may claim Delay Repay for delays.
